The best thing about crocheted gifts is that someone will literally have my love to keep them warm!  How sweet is that!?!  And when I crochet, I always like to take time to pray for the loved one I’m crocheting for, which makes the gift-making and giving extra special. 🙂

So here is my most recent crocheted gift!  I made it for a very sweet friend and I plan to surprise her with it before Christmas.  FUN!  I call this the “Peppermint Twist”, for obvious reasons. 😉 Of course, you can use any color of yarn, but as soon as I saw this at Hobby Lobby I knew I had to have it…It’s just so perfectly Christmassy!!!

This project is quick, easy, and fun!  Perfect for beginners.

Supply List:

Yarn Bee Colorplay Yarn (Color: Royal Guard) 2 Skeins

Crochet Hook, size S – 19mm

Tapestry Needle to weave ends

About one hour of free time

Stitches Used/Abbreviations:

ch – chain loop

sc – single crochet

hdc – half double crochet

sl st – slip stitch

Sizes:  One Size Fits All

Notes: This pattern is crocheted loosely to ensure ease in slipping it over the head, with a nice, loose twist about the neck.

Working the foundation chain of this twisted scarf is the hardest part.  I’ve provided photos below of this and a few of the other more difficult steps, to help guide you through it.  Hover over the pictures to see their descriptions.  Click on the pictures to enlarge them. Please note, the number of stitches used in the photos of the chain is much less than noted in the pattern. This was done so the entire chain would be visible from end to end and you can see clearly how they connect.

Instructions:

Also note that in this pattern, 1 “row” will take you around both the top of the scarf and then the bottom.  So basically, it will be like working 2 rows at a time.

Foundation:  Ch 32

Twist the chain 180° (see photo 1) and join with a sl st in the top of the 1st ch to form a ring (see photo 2).

Row 1:  Ch 1, sc in next stitch and each stitch around.  Join to first sc with sl st, do not turn.

Row 2:  Ch 1, sc in next stitch and each stitch around.  Join to first sc with sl st, do not turn.

Row 3:  Ch 2, hdc in next stitch and each stitch around.  Join to first hdc with sl st, do not turn.

Repeat Rows 1-3

Note: You will need to tie in the next yarn skein at some point.  Please watch this video tutorial from Bella Coco on “The Magic Knot“, which I highly recommend.

Finish: Sl st in each stitch around.  Join with sl st, tie off, and weave in ends.

Note:  If you need instruction on how to weave in your ends, here is another great video tutorial from Nicki’s Homemade Crafts on “How to WEAVE IN ENDS“.

Well, there you have it!  I hope this is helpful and fun for all who try it.  I did my best to double-check things, but if you find any errors, or if you have any questions, please message me and I’ll do my best to help.  Thank you!

Happy Crocheting!
