I picked up this Rooster Wall Art at a local thrift store for $1 a couple months ago. The frame was originally burgundy and the board inside was flat black on one side and some foreign cursive on yellow paper on the other. It wasn’t exactly my style, but I knew it had potential…

Umm…I kinda forgot to get a “before” pic, because I was so eager to experiment with chalk paint for the first time. I was SHOCKED by how quickly and well this black covered the burgundy. No prep, except to wash the frame with soap and water. I used less than a tablespoon of paint, diluted it with water, and applied it with a Dollar Tree sponge brush in a matter of minutes. Super easy.

After letting the black coat cure for about 2 hours, I went over it quickly with a coat of white. I let that coat cure overnight, and added another coat this morning. I let the white coat cure for a couple hours, while I ran to Dollar Tree for baby oil to use as a sealant…I’ll explain more about that in a minute…Of course, I couldn’t resist picking up a few other things too. 😛 When I came home, I grabbed a sheet of fine sandpaper and roughed it up a bit.

The “Thankful” ornament was something I found at Dollar Tree today…I hadn’t planned to use it here, but it just felt right when I laid it on there, ya know? 😛

Played with several different pieces of fabric, trying to find juuuust the riiiiight one…Eventually, I decided to glue this neutral-ish one with farm animals on it on the back side, so it’s reversible. Not sure I’ll use it though…I really like all the colors on the other side.

We found the Waverly Chalk Paint at Walmart the other night and I was so excited, I just had to try it…So glad I did! I know I’m a little late to the chalk paint party…It has a lot to do with my tightwaddedness. lol However, I love this stuff, and now I want to PAINT ALL THE THINGS!!! 😉

Sooo, not sure if this was a wise choice or not, but it was cheap! While watching a YouTube video to learn more about chalk painting yesterday, I realized that I needed a sealant. One lady suggested baby oil because it’s basically mineral oil, which is commonly used as a sealant for chalk paint. Not wanting to drive to the Walmart where I found the paint, and not wanting to hunt for it elsewhere, I decided to grab this baby oil while I was at Dollar Tree today. I used the sponge to apply it to the frame and wiped off the excess with a microfiber cloth. It seems to have set up beautifully! all appendages and eyes crossed. 😛

Well, there you have it! Thoughts? Suggestions? It does seem to need something else, but I have no idea what…If I figure it out, I’ll update this post. lol

Thanks for reading friends! Hugs!!!
